Is Your Business Using a “Going The Extra Mile” Policy?
Are you Failing your Customers and losing them to the Competition?
I was just reading an article by one of my mentors.
In it they describe how one particular employee made sure that they did everything they possibly could for every passenger on the coach of the train that they were responsible for, while other staff made as much effort as possible to avoid doing any more than the minimum.
My mentor was able to reward the diligent employee in an unseen way for Going The Extra Mile that day. No doubt that employee enjoys his work and even when not feeling totally up for it, approaches every customer with a positive and friendly way, ensuring that they feel special and that nothing is too much trouble for them.
The other two just sabotaged the business and presented a bad impression of lack of care tot he customers. Which service do you think most passengers saw and remembered?
Most big retail stores and growing businesses ask their customers for regular feed back to see where they are doing well and where they need to improve their service, do you? It’s very quick and easy to set up.
Do your customers get made to feel special to your business every day? One business that I worked with adopted a “Cuddle a Customer Today” type of policy, (not literally of course) and saw great sales growth as a result!
Do you keep them informed and engaged about the special events and things that you do as much as products or services that you offer?
Going The Extra Mile will make them feel that you care about them and will reap the rewards for you in the short term as well as the long run.
